A Diary of Delights - Cultivate a Positive Outlook

For a daily dose of happiness this simple diary of delights idea takes only minutes. If you are, or have been:-...then the Diary of Delights will uplift you and begin to put the sparkle back into your life.

My joy is children. When you have worked for as long as I have with very young children and those with developmental delay and special needs, you get to observe so many of their 'Ureka' moments.

diary of delights -happiness eyes

You witness the sheer joy and delight in their eyes as they attempt something new. You celebrate together in their achievement and watch with awe as they practice their new found skill over and over again.

Have you ever wondered why they repeat things over and over like that. Not only are they practising and refining that particular skill but they are 'testing' to find out under which conditions it continues to hold true. What elements can they change and still get even better results...be more successful?

Are you still getting the same results in your life?... and not the ones you want. Perhaps there is something you need to change?

Develop a Positive Mental Attitude

The Diary of Delights will help you to regain your own 'joy moments' and move you towards a more positive view of life. We all lead such busy lives and are under such pressure that it is easy to disregard the little things that make our world so wonderful.

Developing a Positive Mental Attitude trains the brain to see greater possibilities in life, more positive outcomes and to develop over time a more optimistic outlook. You'll be on your way to creating a good Happiness habit.

How long does it take to create a new habit? ....21 days according to research.

Not sure if you can manage 21 days, then begin by commiting to one week, just seven days. I'm sure you will be surprised and rewarded by this charming journalling technique that I first met on an NLP Life Coaching Course.

Diary of Delights

Every day I want you to WRITE DOWN at least 5 things that bring you joy - they may make you smile, make your heart sing, surprise you in a pleasant way, jog a happy memory etc.

You must WRITE THEM DOWN and they must be different each day, so you will need to keep a record to look back on.

They can be sights, sounds, people, places, smells, tastes, feelings, - they MUST be POSITIVE.

For example today I noticed:

    diary of delights-orange blossom
  1. a vibrant shade of lime green - one tree that stands out from the rest
  2. a tiny bird as it wings its way somewhere - above our crowded and cluttered human existence
  3. the call of a bird in the back garden of the house - above the noise of a passing car. How does it do that I ask myself?
  4. the smell of the fragrant orange blossom as it wafts through the open window
  5. a memory come to mind of walking through bluebell woods

You may begin to notice ....all those things that you forget...those things you take for granted...as you notice how relaxed and happy you are becoming.

In the beginning you will probably want to write a simple list e.g. tree, bird, birdcall, flower scent, memory.

If you really don't know where to start, then work through your 5 senses and include inner feelings and observations too.

The secret to making the process more powerful is to embellish your description to notice what it is that brings it to your attention and how it makes you feel.

How did you get on?
What changes did you notice?
Remember to write them in your diary too!
