Fathers Day Gifts Poem

Licorice allsorts, jelly beans, his favourite candy
A bottle of Scotch Whisky or Napoleon Brandy
A juicy steak dinner, cooked to perfection
Another CD for his music collection
New golf bag, shoes or gloves
Golf umbrella in a colour he loves
Sports shoes, soccer kit, tickets to the game
Personalised jersey bearing his name
A helicopter ride or trial pilot's flight
Hang glider lessons or trip in microlight
Puro cigars in cedar-lined leather case
Aviator sunglasses to adorn his face
Men's grooming set, skin care products to try
Anti-aging treatments you can buy
Circuits in a fast car round a racetrack
A night at the casino playing blackjack
Signet ring, cufflinks, a chain for his neck
Earing, nose-ring, what the heck
Father's day is a time to celebrate
The love for a father you appreciate

In my experience men get a raw deal when it comes to gifts, this fathers day poem lists some pretty obvious ones. But then, some say its the thought that counts!

Verses for Cards, Fathers Day Verse

Here are some short verses for greetings cards and gift tags around a sports and hobbies theme.

Hey Dad

Hey dad, have a great day
Only one thing I want to say
You don't need to be a superstar
I love you just the way you are

Pauline Oliver

Number 1 DAD

Life dealt me a winning hand
As shoulder to shoulder with you I stand
No father could ever take your place
You're my trump card - my ACE

Pauline Oliver

Thanks DAD

In life I take my cue from you
I know which shots to play
You coached me through
Life's games and frames
To be my best each day
Your patient understanding
Your cool unerring nerve
You are the greatest dad
Much more than I deserve

Pauline Oliver

The Father's Cup

In the father stakes
You're tipped to win
Odds on favourite
Easily romping in
First past the post
At every meet
You're my champion
Got all other dads beat

Pauline Oliver

A Child's Plea to Dad

Working long hours is over-rated
And I appreciate your sacrifice
You do it for your family
Yet miss out on family life
There are so many moments
Of which you are not part
I wish we could share more of them
Dad I love you with all my heart

Pauline Oliver

Fathers day poems - a fathers role in the 21st century is much more varied than in the past.

21st Century Dad

A father's role, does such a thing exist
In recent itmes, has it not taken a twist
The boundaries now,  surely are  blurred
Do fathers continue to have the last word?

21st century dads need many more skills
Much more than working to pay the bills,
Nappy changing, childcare, paternity leave
Househusband, lone parent, no time to breathe

Housework, shopping, cooking a meal
Being a father as always is a really big deal
Yet the pressure on you can weigh like boulders
Old 'father' ideals placed on your shoulders

What is a father? It's not written in stone
A role you step into and make your own
Do the best you can do, we all make mistakes
Give it your best shot, you've got what it takes.

Pauline Oliver

Fathers day poems act as reminders and memory links to the past.
My own father died in March 2006 at the age of 82 and I recently met some people who knew him and commented on him being 'a real character.'  Yes, he certainly was, but as his child it is not always possible to appreciate him in the same way.

My dad

'He was a real character, a genuine bloke'
Is how my dad is remembered so fondly by folk
No one quite like him, except his dad of course
Years ago they sold firewood with cart and a horse

Summer workclothes - a string vest, and trousers tied with a chord
His appearance belied what he could really afford
A hard-working man, a checkered  flat cap he wore
His enviable charm, the fact that he swore
His language not eloquent, he called a spade a spade
Strong and belligerent - we kids were afraid

No hobbies, no pastimes, but for pleasure he sought
Watching darts or wrestling, but he never played sport
Then booted and suited, clip-on bow tie, trilby hat
It was off to the club for a beer and a chat
With a large roll of banknotes ready to flash
He rarely went out without plenty of cash

A deep-thinking man, we kids misunderstood
Helped people less fortunate whenever he could
His black hair he kept close to his last day
Slicked back with Brylcreem the old-fashioned way
His cloth cap of course is our mum's keepsake
Another like my dad they never could make.

Fathers Day Poems 4. This next father poem was written by asking other people about their fathers.

A Father is...

A father is a rock
An anchor 'gainst the tides
A buffer from the crashing waves
That beat upon all sides

His stance is strong and solid
Fostering unity and ties
A father's love is steadfast
Through all the lows and highs

A father is the warmth and light
Radiant with love and pride
A beacon to his family
Taking all within his stride

His greatness is his energy
To secure his family's place
With tenacity and patience
And his wisdom and his grace

A father is the voice of reason
On which families are founded
Handed down through generations
By his doctrine they are grounded

Stern discipline or gentle praise
His words will long resound
His sayings, rhythm and tonality
In your own words will be found

A father is, a father does
A father has feelings for sure
A father can be all these things
And yes, a father is so much more.
