Happiness Affirmations - Expand Your Limiting Beliefs
Identify YOUR Limiting Beliefs?
We are what we believe we are.
Positive Affirmations, Happiness Affirmations help us convince ourselves to become who we aspire to be.
Throughout our lives, we create and hold on to certain beliefs -- about our capabilities,
- our behaviour and
- our identities.
These are generalisations we make about the world and principles by which we operate in it.
If we receive the message that we are likely/unlikely or able/unable to do something, our mind will reinforce that
belief.
We will then focus on and notice more, those situations that fulfil this belief...thereby setting up a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Beliefs can be limiting or empowering. You need to strengthen your empowering beliefs and reduce or eliminate those that limit you in some way.

Whether you believe you can be happy, or believe you can't, you're probably right. |
What are Limiting Beliefs?
Limiting beliefs are ones you hold on to that no longer serve you well. Once you recognise them you can change them or replace them with more empowering ones.
Some beliefs will have come from childhood and may even have been handed down through generations.
As a child you may have heard things like:
- 'he's such a miserable boy'
- 'all you ever do is moan'
- 'she doesn't have a sense of humour'
- 'we'll never be happy'
Others may have come from school, work or your relationships. If you hear something often enough you tend to believe it.
Limiting beliefs usually fall into one of
three categories, feelings of worthlessnes helplessness or hopelessness. You may think that:
- you don't deserve to be happy
- that you can't possibly achieve it by or for yourself
- that it's a waste of time because it never lasts
What Limiting Beliefs Do YOU Hold?
Take a moment NOW to think about what limiting beliefs you hold around being happy, or about being able to change your life....
A good way to do this is to think about the words and sayings you use yourself or those common to your family, friends, work colleagues and your partner.
For example: - I shall never be happy
- I can never change
- I don't know how to...tell jokes / be positive / laugh about it
- I've tried things like this before - they never work for me
- You can't teach an old dog new tricks
- You can't be happy without the money to do it
- It's alright for you, you have everything you want
'Do YOU really want to be happy?'
If your answer is 'YES' and you're willing to put in some effort, it is most certainly within your power and within your grasp.
Giving yourself positive,
supportive messages can take as little as a few minutes each day. It's got to be worth it, hasn't it?
Happiness Affirmations DO THIS - send supportive messages.
What are Affirmations
Affirmations, Happiness Affirmations are positive one-line statements that feed your brain with constructive messages.
Through daily repetition they gradually change your beliefs, thereby changing your mind to make YOUR goals possible.
Happiness Affirmations expand your beliefs and stimulate your imagination.
How to Use Affirmations
It's important to use small steps towards your goal when setting your affirmations as your brain may not readily accept too big a jump.
You can always change them as you go along.
Remember too, these may be very deep seated and you could be resistant to change. You may have held these beliefs since being a very young child. They will have become part of who you are, and you may never have questioned them before.
You can use them in any area of your life. It's good to use two or three daily happiness affirmations together, taken from those areas you identify in your Happiness Inventory/Action Plan. Of course it's OK to use several around the one goal or theme if you feel that works best for you.
For YOUR Happiness Affirmations to work they must be:
- positive - What you do want, not what you don't
- present tense -(I am) write them as if they have already happened
- move towards your goal in small steps
There are several ways to use your happiness affirmations and you will know which method works best for you.
You can:
- 1. Write them big and bold on card -
Place them in prominent points around the house, e.g. bathroom mirror, above the kettle beside your bed etc.
Alternatively set aside a time each day to go through them, reading them out loud to yourself
- 2. Record them in your own voice -
Play them in the car, at home, or especially as you are drifting off to sleep.
- 3. Write them out several times -
set aside some time each day to write out your affirmations
say them out loud as you write if possible.
|
(I use method 3 - it fits best into my life. I write each affirmation five times with my right hand
and then five times with my left hand.
To write with your non-dominant hand practice lazy 8's.)Writing them out in this way ensures involvement of both brain hemispheres, the 'logical' left brain and the 'artistic' right brain.
Experiment to find what works for you.

Happiness Affirmations WORK!
You get what you expect, or what you focus on.
Use your affirmations to keep your focus. You will soon
feel the change, because you have brought your attention to the things that are important to you.
Like
journalling and gratitude diaries you will begin to notice in what ways you are living out your happiness affirmations.
Engage All Your Senses to Activate Your Affirmations
In each statement you are embodying more than just the words. In your mind you are equating the words with a picture,
- a sound, a behaviour,
- a way of being
that is cognizant with your experiences.
For example, using the example happiness affirmations above:
I am a successful business person - (What picture do you have of this person? What can you hear them saying? How do they present themselves?)
I feel joy and happiness every day/more and more - you can build in a time or a frequency like 'every day' or a generalisation such as 'more and more.'
I know how to see the funny side of things - what capability do you think you need. This may be a new skill to develop. You will likely be drawn to people who can already do this

As you become familiar with using happiness affirmations you will also become expert at choosing and creating the most powerful for you. Then you will skyrocket yourself onwards.
It's a really good idea to keep your happiness affirmations to look back on - as a reminder of your starting point. Write them in a special book or keep them in a special place.
That way you HONOUR, VALIDATE AND VALUE the process too.
My Personal Experience
Personally at this time I have been writing 2 happiness affirmations once daily for around three weeks. I replaced one after two weeks and the other after two and a half weeks.
I don't use them all the time, but they are a valuable self-change tool. I know they work well for me and are part of my daily action plan towards my goals.
'Action may not always bring happiness but there is no happiness without action.'
